Record-High Number Of Covid Cases In Thailand
The government of Thailand had recorded a total of 9,635 new Covid-19 cases in the country today, 17 May 2021. This is so far the biggest one-day increase of new Covid cases since the start of the pandemic last year. There are also 25 Covid-related deaths recorded today.
According to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), out of the 9,635 new cases today, 6,853 were found in prisons. It also stated that prisons in Bangkok and Chiang Mai had the most number of infected inmates.
Aside from that, Bangkok saw 1,843 new cases, while Samut Prakan had 155 new cases and Pathum Thani with 146 cases. Bangkok currently has the highest number of clusters in 19 districts – Din Daeng, Wattana, Klong Toey, Lak Si, Lat Phrao, Ratchathewi, Phra Nakhon, Promprap Sattruphai, Suan Luang, Pathumwan, Sathon, Samphanthawong, Chatuchak, Bang Rak, Prawet, Wang Thonglang, Ramkhamhaeng, Bangkok Noi and Huai Kwang.
The government also recorded nine imported cases: 4 from Malaysia, 2 from Cambodia and one each from Pakistan, Ireland and Israel.
