While the Land of Smiles has been relatively successful in controlling coronavirus infections, Songkran Festival is still banned consecutively for the second year due to the pandemic.
No Water Wars on the Streets of Thailand Again This Year:
Songkran Festival normally takes place from April 13 to 15 to celebrate Thai New Year. The festival draws hundreds and thousands of crowds from all over the world each year.
Crowds would flock the streets of Thailand, engaging in water fights, and spraying water guns. Known as the world’s biggest water fight, people will even blast water from pick-up trucks and elephants.
“Water splashing will not happen this Songkran. We must ask you to cooperate with us,” Taweesin Wisanuyothin, a spokesman for Thailand’s COVID-19 task force, told a briefing.
Besides water wars, foam parties are also banned. Here’s the catch. The government approves religious activities like pouring water over hands of older people. Travel between provinces also allowed.
Who miss Songkran Festival? Seems like only yesterday when we were splashing water onto one another. We definitely miss having all the upbeat activities in Thailand. Let us all hope for the best! In the meantime, stay safe and buh bye!
